The office of the Sheriff is mandated by Illinois Constitution. The Governor commissions Sheriffs after the citizens of the County elect them. The Sheriff has several duties, which are established by Illinois State Law. The Sheriff also possesses the authority to call to his or her aid, when necessary, any person or power of the County to fulfill these duties.
